Life Journeys

Well just got back from our family vacation during my summer vacation. Yes, A vacation in a vacation. Very interesting experience. First I traveled to Reno, NV with my older and more prestigious sister Rebekah, who is home on leave from the Navy.
When In Reno we rested for a day with my parents and younger brother and sister. Nate and Rachel. Then headed out for Yosemite National Park in California. We stopped at a Hot Spring on a mountain on the way and I did something I never thought I would agree to doing. I swam in the snow... It was a fun experience. . . but i dont think i would ever do it again. Somehow this is the only picture I got of the adventure, but i guess one picture is all you need.

After the hot spring, we made our way down the mountain and continued onward towards Yosemite. On the way we saw many beautiful mountains, lots of snow, a few deer, and quite a lot of funny unusual sights.

Right before making it into the park we made a stop at an overlook where we could see the beautiful Sierra Mountains. This is also a spot we took a potty break and I had the most embarrassing moment of my life. Apparently the lock on the unisex bathrooms was broken...and as I was happily relieving myself the door opened. There stood an old oriental man...who looked at me for a good 30 seconds before realizing that the restroom was occupied. Well, after the door was shut...and i quickly finished up and walked out, the eyes of his entire family were glued to me. Even after I got in the car and as we drove away.

Once we entered the park, we quickly saw the effects and remains of a devastating forest fire. And as my mom said, seeing the burned tree trunks makes you want to plant a new tree. It's sad to see that so many people in our society are careless and can burn an entire population down with just the strike of a match. Makes me want to write a column about the selfish and careless ways of the human race. And I think I will do so this summer, just to keep up on my writing.

We also saw many majestic waterfalls. Ones that I wish you could see for yourself one day. The beauty of God's creation could not stand out in a better way. These waterfalls had many layers, and even from miles and miles away you could hear the roar of their water tumbling off the sides of the mountains. Nate and Rachel thought they were the coolest things ever. But I think my dad enjoyed seeing the falls the most. He had seen them all as a young boy with his parents, and now he was able to enjoy the sights with us.

We were able to walk up to the Vista Point of Bridalveil Falls. It felt like the waterfall was raining on us and luckily I was smart enough to buy a sweater, which I honestly thought looked hideous on me. But matched with Rebekah's black beanie, I was quite warm and stayed fairly dry. Mom tried taking a picture of Rebekah and I while next to Bridalveil, but it didnt work out so well. The wind began blowing, and mom got pretty soaked. This was the result...

As the trip wound down, and on our way home we decided to take a trip through Sacramento. On the way there dad let us stop at a roadside stand that sold fresh strawberries. I'm not talking about a couple days old either. These had JUST been picked from the vines. Hadn't even been washed yet. Let me tell ya. They are the BEST strawberries I have ever had! I wish I had a picture to go with that experience, but sadly I was to engulfed in eating them...that it slipped my mind to capture them with my camera.

When we reached Sacramento we stopped for lunch at the most amazing Sushi bar in the world. Okay maybe not in the world, but it was the most amazing I have had so far in my existence. It was called Mikuni, and I recommend eating there if you are in the Sacramento area. It was located near downtown. Oh, our waiter looked like Mr. Darcey. Quite a handsome and nice fella. And, as a tradition in our family, which I started, we took pictures of the sushi. I have quite a collection of sushi pictures now. But that is a different post.
Inside of this particularly amazing Mikuni Sushi bar, aside from some pretty handsome wait staff, was a giant steel Octopus. Which we got the privilege of sitting under. Rebekah and I are hoping that one day, when our not present younger sister Elisabeth is an accomplished welder, why she wants to be a welder is unknown and mysterious to me, she will recreate this octopus for our enjoyment.

I wish that I could go more in depth about our travels of the past few days, but I am quite impatient with my writing of personal accounts. I am much better with writing about the events of others lives. But I have provided you with a nutshell version of the adventures. And Remember Friends... Speeding Kills Bears!
